Starting the Starter Again!

While scrolling through my pinterest pages a few weeks ago,
I came to my sour dough starter pins.

I thought why don't I start another starter.
The pipeliners schedule will keep us home most of the summer.
If we have to go out of town it will be in the camper and the starter can come along too!
(airport security really frown upon bringing sourdough starter on the plane)

I had researched starters when I first got interested in the idea.
I know I even posted something on my blog.

I selected and ordered a starter from Carls Friends
It came alive fast.

I baked fresh bread, rolls, cupcakes and scones from the various
recipes I found online.

Mmmmm they were so good!

Then we moved and I let it die!

The other day my new batch of sour dough starter arrived in the mail.

I was so excited to get my new batch going!

It was very active the next day!

Today I switched it over to a bigger jar.

It is already bubbling away!

I am so excited to start making sour dough bread again, plus all of the yummy pancakes I used to make with it.

Does anybody else keep a sour dough starter on hand?
Do you have any great sour dough recipes?

I would love for you to share!

I will post an entry of my first sour dough creation when starter
becomes ready.

  1. I got a Carl's Friends starter a few years ago, and I baked with it for a long time. And then life got busy again..... and it did not survive. I can't wait to see what you make.

  2. I have never done it . . . but then I am not much of a baker . . . maybe that is why.
It sure sounds interesting though and the results sound even tastier!
Good luck, I look forward to your updates!

  4. I have never tried it... infact, I think I've only tried to bake fresh bread ( not from a box) only once. I need to get back to that. I hope everything is great and that you are having a wonderful spring!! : )

  10. I've never used a starter, but I remember my mom used one. Unfortunately, she called it the "monster" and called anything she made with it monster bread/biscuits etc. I must have been pretty impressionable as a kid because I was afraid to eat anything made with the starter. I guess that's why I've never investigated it further. silly

  12. the first summer I was married, I met a sweet lady in the trailer park where we lived-- she got me started on 'friendship' bread. The problem was... I didn't have any friends! She was the only person I knew in that town.
I'm telling you this, because... September Violets mentioned her moms, Monster bread... I KNOW why she called it that.
    You have to feed it.
You have to give some away...
OR IT WILL OVER RUN YOUR KITCHEN COUNTER!
I haven't made monster bread... er, huh, I mean... friend ship bread or sourdough in years. But I'm very interested in doing it... I love sourdough.
I know it is better for me than regular bread... especially with the T2 diabetes diagnosis.
If I understand correctly... the yeast eats all the sugar... so I don't have too! ;)

  13. I remember making the friendship starter bread when I was a young bride. I think it is fun to think about you making it and look forward to seeing what all you do with it. The "starter" will like going on vacation with you:)
